Meet Isa

WestCord Hotel Schylge

Who are you?

My name is Isa Manschot, the Group & Event Manager of Island Events on Terschelling. Island Events by WestCord is the events agency of the WestCord Hotels on the Wadden Islands.

My colleagues are also on Vlieland and Ameland. We get to organize all sorts of things: conferences, corporate outings, incentives, weddings, team-building activities, etc.

But we also organize fully catered weekends for leisure guests with their friends and family.

How did you end up here?

Haha, this is a long story, I'll try to keep it short. In December 2019, I graduated in International Tourism Management, with a dream to immediately go backpacking through Southeast Asia.

Unfortunately, that came to an abrupt end in March 2020 due to corona... Eventually, I was on one of the last flights back to the Netherlands. Of course, the job market was quiet.

However, tourism on the Wadden Islands seemed to be booming. Through my Duty Management internship at the Fashion, I was already familiar with WestCord.

The application process went very quickly, and from one day to the next, I was behind the reception at Boschrijck! However, what was meant to be a summer job has now become somewhat more serious almost three years later.

Do you live on the island?

Yes, I live in an apartment in the staff housing at Boschrijck. There are staff rooms, studios, and apartments here. It's incredibly nice to be allowed to live here!

How do you experience the work atmosphere?

I find the work atmosphere with colleagues very unique and cozy. The line between private and work life is minimal for us, of course. But that also makes it very fun, you get quite close to each other.

This may sound cliché, but you really get the family feeling here, because you really have each other here! And in that regard, I find the atmosphere on the work floor unique.

And what does your day look like?

I have a completely different workday every day! If we don't have groups or conferences in the hotels, my working hours are usually from 9 to 5, really office hours, from Monday to Friday.

In the morning, I always go through the event program, which includes all the tasks and deadlines for the day and the incoming emails. This ranges from preparing quotes to finalizing evaluations and financial administration. And everything in between. So, no day is the same! That makes the job challenging and varied.
